The Premium Cruise (Sea Day 2)

It is the second of four sea days on this cruise, and I wake up from a good night's sleep. Feeling good, I look at my phone and discover it's down to 1% power, for some reason. This is not good. Leaving it plugged in when I leave for breakfast, I put the Do Not Disturb sign on the door. This is because housekeeping unplugs everything when they come to clean the room. Not sure why they do this, but there it is.

The word for this morning was "rain." An incredible amount of it. The other word is "soot." This is a result of the smokestack spewing onto deck 10 aft, AKA The Serenity deck, an adults only hideaway. Sitting up there on one of the few undercover chairs in the area, myself and other passengers watch the deck crew sweep. squeegee, remove chaise lounges, and empty, clean, and refill the pool. All this in the rain. This is going to be a great day.

Returning back to my cabin after a couple of hours, I see that my phone is up to 18%. Well, that's progress. And I leave again for trivia. Today is Dr. Suess Day across the fleet, and on my way down to the Red Frog Pub for the trivia, the kids go by in the Dr. Suess parade. This is a long-standing tradition and is always good to see.

After general knowledge trivia (I came in 3rd), I wandered by up to Serenety to see what was happening. Everything had re-opened and the rain had gone. I also found, upon returning to my room, that the balcony cleaning was completed, and my phone is at 21%. We are getting there, but definitely have to get a new phone when I get home. This one is 4 or 5 years old- time to upgrade, this device has seen better days for sure. I just have to keep it alive until next week. I'm grateful that I also brought my computer with me. At the very least I can log on to e-mail and social media.

Time for the art auction. Art auctions have been happening for decades on Carnival, but I just started going to them myself a couple years ago. I actually won a piece last year. And I almost one a piece today--a signed and numbered color pencil drawing of Tweety Bird. There were several copies available, with the bid starting at $1.00. I was with it all the way up to $45.00 and dropped out. Everyone who stayed in got one. Turns out the auctioneer, as I was told after the event, needed one more person to drop as he didn't have enough available for all. I just happened to be that person.

Nothing else much to report today, except as I wrap this up my phone is up to 39% power. Maybe by the morning, I'll be able to use it again. Also, I just got back from the early comedy show--a PG show with Frank Lancuso. He is really good.

Tomorrow is our first of three ports--Halfmoon Cay, one of the line's private ports. We will be the only ship there, so we'll have the run of the place.

See you tomorrow.
