The Premium Cruise (Sea Day 1)

It's amazing what food, a shower, and a change of clothes can do to up spirits. After a good night sleep last night and a great breakfast this morning, I am back to my normal self.

Today is the first Sea Day here on board the Carnival Legend We are on the way to our first port, Half Moon Cay, one of the cruise lines private islands, but it will take today and tomorrow to get there. In the meantime, we are sailing south down the east coast and slightly east towards the Caribbean.

This morning was extremely rainy, I think I actually heard a bit of thunder, but no lightning. Temps in the mid-60's. By afternoon we were out of it, but the seas were a bit rocky still. The upper decks have been closed all day as a result.

This morning's main order of business was to get some of my VIFP Premium level gifts. This requires heading down to Pixels, the ship's photo shop. These are the folks who take all the professional passenger photos around the ship, and at port. Passengers can buy what they want and leave the rest behind.

According to John Heald, the line's chief brand ambassador, the gifts will change a few times throughout the year, but currently it's a Carnival branded fanny pack (or, as John is an Englishman, a bum bag). I also get a pin.

As the week goes along, I'll be partaking in more amenities now available to me. For example, tomorrow I'll be getting my free drink at Sea Day Brunch, and later in the week, the one I'm most excited about---free laundry! There's also the Chocolate Delight, for which I have to call room service. Nothing wrong with that. I like chocolate.

After spending the day just resting, reading, and generally hanging out, dinner time, as it usually does, came along. Tonight is the first of two Elegant Nights. This means dressing up. I didn't bring a full suit, but I do have a nice dress shirt, tie, and dress pants. Elegant Night used to be taken much more seriously, but, you know how society is these days.

Anyway, after dinner, is the show. Tonight's show was "The Brits," where the house singers and dancers perform the big hits of British 60's and 70's rock. One issue--due to the earlier weather causing the boat to rock, there were no dress or technical rehearsal. So, instead of all the song and dance, we got just song. I have to say, they are good singers. Although, I do miss live music, but that is an age long gone.

Tomorrow, another day at sea.
