The Platinum Cruise (Sea Day 3)

As I awoke this morning, the ship was heading north away from Amber Cove, starting the journey back home. Today is the third of four sea days, and the second to last full day aboard. We are cruising at a decent clip, in fact, due to the winds created by the forward movement of the ship, the upper decks are closed down. After all, we have to get back to Baltimore by 10 AM Sunday morning, and at last check, we still had just over 1,000 nautical miles to go.

While waiting for breakfast to open, I got together my second bag of laundry. I almost didn't bother, but I get two bags, and, it turns out, when I put in things I was going to do at home, I got a full bag. This will make things much easier. However, technology failed me once again, and my little stapler I was going to use to close up the bag, then I discovered I had no tape. As a temporary measure I used paperclips, but when I got back from breakfast, my room attendant had taken it, so I guess it was figured out.

In the meantime, the rest of the morning was pretty quiet. Hung out up in Serenety reading in the nice weather--no rain and not that hot. Really nice day.

After lunch, I headed down to the art auction. Since this was the Grand Finale Auction (meaning the last of this cruise), it was a big one, running almost 2 hours. The first piece of the show sold for $9,000. I could help but think: If you can afford that, then why are you cruising on Carnival, famously one of the least expensive lines in the industry?

In any case, there was another small piece I almost went for--similar to the Tweedy Bird the other day, only this time it was Winnie the Pooh---but the price went up so fast, I was out pretty quick. It ended up selling for $120.

Dinner was from the Seafood Corner, a part of the Lido Buffet. The Seafood Corner isn't included, it is an extra price, but I thought I would try it. I got the lobster roll, and it was good, but a little too big for me. There's definitely enough for sharing, although at $18.00, it was a pretty good price.

The day ended with a comedy show by veteran comic Tom Foss. He is really funny. However, there were so many hecklers, it was more like a conversation with the audience, rather than a straight show. He knows how to handle the hecklers, I have to say.

Returning to my cabin, I find my laundry has been completed and returned--without missing anything, except my paper clips, but that's OK. I also find in my mail that I've received my invitation to the VIP Diamond and Platinum Gathering tomorrow afternoon in the Firebird Lounge (AKA comedy club). This is the last of the Premium benefits I'll be using on this voyage. Really looking forward to it!
