Colorado Rockies Notes--Day 8--Friday, September 4, 2019--Royal Gorge and Garden of the Gods

6:30 AM MT—Today is the last full day on our tour of the state of Colorado. Breakfast begins and we have cereal! The Strater didn’t have any, so this is the first breakfast in 3 days that we have a cereal option. I go for Fruit Loops. In addition, Bill, Denise, and I realize we’ve had breakfast together every morning. We make plans to meet up tomorrow.

We’re not leaving until 8:30 this morning, so I take some time to fill out my trip survey. Overall, I’m favorable but do give some suggestions for making the long travel days (like yesterday) better. Also, I’m not sure why we have to turn them in tonight when we have to mark items that don't happen until tomorrow but OK.

8:30 AM MT— Addition to the itinerary. Starting with the Air Force Academy. A really beautiful campus. Amazing what cadets go through.

Leaving Colorado Springs for the day, we learn that Pikes Peak Ave points directly at Pikes Peak.

10:41 AM MT-- Quick stop at Garden of the Gods. We'll be back later.

11:37 AM MT—Maria passes out transportation information for tomorrow. I’m on the 11:45, on the same bus as always! She also passed out a list of everyone's emails--for those who want to. Most, including me, do.

12:30 PM MT— On the Royal Gorge train. Got some great shots of the bridge from the Gorge. I got a basic lunch because it's a big dinner tonight.

3:44 PM MT—Arrival at Garden of the Gods, a free park owned by the City of Colorado Springs. Home of the famous Balancing Rock.

6:00 PM MT—Our last meal together as a full group is at MacKenzie’s Chop House. It was a great trip and this is a great group. As Maria and Richard mentioned, we have a rare cohesiveness and friendships were made. I agree.

By the way, the total mileage beginning to end is 1215 miles in the bus.

While the official tour is over, some of us will see each other at breakfast in the morning because we are leaving so late for Denver. So, the final good-bye is yet to come.
