Colorado Rockies Notes--Day 4--Monday, September 30, 2019--Arches/Canyonlands National Parks

4:00 AM MT—Didn’t sleep long, but did sleep well. It’s going to be a long day today with our trip to two National Parks, running over the border into Utah to visit Arches. Maria told us last night that on the way out this morning we will be stopping at a local grocery store to pick up food for a picnic lunch. Doing this should save us an hour in the parks, allowing for more time to explore.

7:30 AM MT—On our way out of town for the day, we stop at City Market, the local supermarket chain. to pick up food. Lunch and dinner tonight is on our own, so I go shopping. Food for lunch and dinner today, and some snacks for the rest of the trip.

8:33 AM MT—-We have left Colorado and entered Utah, where the speed limit is officially 80 mph. We are going to Canyonlands National Park first, and should be there in another hour or so.

9:45 AM MT—Arrival at Canyonlands, where we actually have to pay. Due to the nature of our bus permit, we have two stops in the park: Green Overlook and Grand Overlook.

We’ll be here for a couple of hours.

12:22 PM MT—Arrival at Arches National Park. We have 45 minutes for lunch, then into the park proper. There are many interesting features here, such as the Three Penguins, the North and South Windows, and the Petrified Dunes. We will spend the rest of the day here, then take the two hour drive back to Grand Junction.

5:00 PM MT—Back at the hotel. Taking it easy tonight. Tomorrow, we take a break from the National Parks and get into some history with our first of two historic trains. Tomorrow is the Silverton-Durango Historical Train. We will be staying in Durango tomorrow night and Wednesday night.
