Colorado Rockies Notes Day 1 -Denver

6:30 AM ET—The day did not start so great. I was supposed to be picked up at home. By 6:40, my ride had not yet arrived. Upon calling the airport service, I found out that that although they had my correct flight information, they had my pickup at 6:30 PM, not AM. After some discussion, the service was able to find a driver to come pick me up by 7:45. This is cutting it close for for a flight out of Logan that starts boarding at 9:05, but it was the best I could do at the moment.

7:10 AM ET—The dispatcher calls me back to let me know the driver will arrive in 11 minutes.

7:25 AM ET—Another call to see if the driver had arrived. He had, but went to the wrong house, but I am onboard the transport, and on my way.

8:30 AM ET—Arrived a Logan Airport (Boston). Made it straight through security with no issues and at the gate by 8:50.

9:15 AM ET—I’m in boarding group 3 on United to Denver. It is almost a full flight but I have my seat assignment, which, as always, is a window. Sat right down as I’m the first in my row to board. As soon as we are ready to go, we taxi out and are in the air right on time.

12 Noon MT—Land in Denver, meet the part of my group arriving at this time. There are 8 of us going to the hotel now. There are a total of 30 on this trip; the others are arriving later or came in yesterday.

2:00 PM MT— Having checked into the Sheraton Denver Downtown, I take a walk through the neighborhood. We are staying right near the 16th Street Mall, a pedestrian -only stretch of blocks full of shops, businesses, and restaurants.

5:45 PM MT—Meet the group in the lobby to go to dinner at Maggiano’s Little Italy, where we will meet, greet, and start our vacation in the Colorado Rockies. After sitting in our private room at the restaurant, Maria, our Tour Director, introduces herself and goes over some information on the tour. One interesting tidbit: over the course of the week (starting tomorrow) we will cover two-thirds of the state of Colorado.

We also introduced ourselves. There’s a big group from Oregon, a couple from Australia, and many people from the East Coast. I’m one of only two in the group traveling solo. Seems like a good group.

8:00 PM MT—Back in the hotel for the night. Tomorrow we are off to the Rocky Mountain National Park. Leaving at 8:00 sharp!
