A Trip to Maine: Part 4

I don’t go back to work until Tuesday, but my time in Maine officially ended at approximately 11:15 this morning, as I crossed the Piscataqua Bridge back into New Hampshire. After leaving the hotel, I briefly thought I would get some doughnuts from Congdon’s Doughnuts, but, as much as I love doughnuts and wanted some, I don’t need them. So, instead of going north on Route 1, I headed south, back toward Kittery and ultimately home. I did, however, make a brief stop at the Eddie Bauer outlet in Kittery, because, well, why not?

Due to the quirkiness of the roads, I have to spend half the drive in Massachusetts, even though Maine and Massachusetts have no physical connection, and the political connection was severed in 1819 after Massachusetts agreed to the succession of the area, which became a state in its own right the following year. In any case, as I got closer to home, I started thinking of all the things I want to accomplish with the rest of my time off this weekend. I probably shouldn’t do that; I should just enjoy the time.

The trip was relaxing, to be sure. Being out near the beach for a few days—even with the cooler weather—was surely needed. Even just being away from home for more than a night was surely needed. It was refreshing, and I feel ready to go with some ideas that I have in mind. In fact, even while on the trip, I was able to think about some ideas to move forward.

More on that as time moves along. In the meantime, while I still have a few days off, I’m concluding this report on my trip to Maine. I hope you enjoyed it virtually while I enjoyed it in reality, and I hope you stay safe, stay well, and enjoy!
